EVERYTHING covered in dust

The hardwood installers finished just before American Idol came on. They had been here since 9:00 AM; ripping out the old hardwoods had been a bear of an undertaking. Tomorrow the painters and contractors come to paint the living room and study as well as paint and install the shoe molding and baseboards.

Here's the living room just before they came (as opposed to right after they left; see the section of concrete floor behind the sofa where the water damage was). And now EVERYTHING is covered in dust. All the furniture, lamps, everything we moved to the garage is covered. Every surface of the kitchen is dusted. Ceiling fans are disgusting. It's going to be a very long, very tiring weekend of cleaning. I don't even know where to begin.
Then we prepare for the carpet installers next week. All the furniture and stuff in the craft room, Harleigh's room, and my room has to be moved. I'm trying to hold it together. Really I am.

Here we are piled in the craft room tonite watching American Idol (the living room TV is on the floor in the kitchen . . . covered with dust). Harleigh on the floor playing Sudoku on her iPhone. Gideon using her thigh as a pillow, sleeping from a loud day of being boarded at the vet's. And there's my knee . . . dusty I'm sure.

  2. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I know I always feel unsettled when things are in such a state of upheaval. Don't work too hard, eventually, you will get your home back.

  3. why don't you hire someone to do the cleaning? would be so worth the $$... maybe insurance would pick it up? i have a great person who did a full house cleaning for me and i know would do a great, swift job.

  4. Hi Dawn, I came over via Brenda @ Cozy Little House. I, too, am undergoing the dust thing! For 3 weeks, I've endured rooms with furnishings piled in the middle of them. Accessories are in bedrooms, closets, on the floor, or LOST! LOL It was supposed to be a simple repainting,& new installation of woodwork job.It has taken forever- drywall dust and everyday dirt everywhere. So I know your pain!!! Workers show up one day, do a little work then I don't see anybody for days. The contractor had surgery and his son is subbing. He is the one who doesn't show up! Can I call dad and complain?! I had to be gone for a week so no work got done because I didn't want to leave the door unlocked. After all- WOULD they show up or not? Now we have the holiday- work on hold til Tuesday. No one know what it's like until they go through it, huh? ok, did I rant enough? LOL stop by and visit if you'd like- Sue

  5. Hi, Dawn...to answer the question you left on my blog, the rock with the #3 is for Dale Earnhardt. My husband is/was a huge Dale Sr. fan. It kind of ruined Nascar for him when he was killed.

  6. Bless you. What a job! When you have it all done you are going to love it I am sure. I know how hard it is when everything is out of place. I have been there plenty of times. Have a wonderful weekend in spite of all the dust. Jackie

  7. I don't like it when my nest is a mess either. :) But, the end result will be lovely so hopefully you can see light at the end of the messy tunnel. :)

    Hang in there, Shann

  8. What a bummer! That's not a very fun way to spend the weekend! I hate dusting and can't imagine having to do so much of it. You poor thing. I hope you get it done quickly and reward yourself with something extra special!
