White Slipcovers Are My Friends

Had a bit of anxiousness about dressing my chair and ottoman in white, especially since daughter watches TV in chair (which means lots of feet on cushions, hard leaning on arms of said chair, and eating and drinking while camped in chair), and big dog uses the ottoman as his perch. But I have loved the look of the white slipcovers and so far so good when it comes to wearability. The saving grace was spraying it with Scotchgard, and the ottoman (dog is dirtier than daughter) needs a washing now, but I'm diggin' the look of it.

And I think what I like most about it is that with it being white, I can accessorize it with whatever accent throws I have. Here is one my Nana made. Have always loved ivory and white together, and of course pink flowers look lovely in any setting.

Check back in with me later when Harleigh dribbles chocolate ice cream on the chair and Gideon comes inside from a muddy backyard and makes a bee-line for the ottoman. But for now, all is good.

  1. If its any relief to you, I have bleached what we believe to have been cat blood (we were watching brothers cat) out of our white slip covers and we don't know exactly how long it had set. So, chocolate ice cream and dirty dog are nothing!

  2. I'm not that brave, lol. I think our parents were on to something with all of the dark earth tones they decorated with ;) But it is pretty though :)

Those Jingle Bell napkin rings were actually from Home for the Holidays, by Target, 2001. I would have never guessed that Target made anything in real leather, but I guess they do/did? I sure don't remember seeing those back in 2001, or I am sure I would have bought some! I hope you can find some...they should really make them again, they're adorable!

  3. Your slipcovers are beautiful as is your home. I think the white has that perfect cottage feel, and at least they are washable. I have a chair that is not white but I would love to have some slipcovers for it. Hope you've had a great weekend. Jackie

  4. hi Dawn

I have a white slipcovered sofa that I bought nearly 10 years ago, it's gone through our ups and downs, 3 newborns, 3 toddlers and 2 yukky boys in soccer boots and still comes up as good as new every time I wash it and I still love love love it so I don't think you'll have any problems such a classic look, I've changed it so many times simply with different scatter cushions

thanks so much for your advice on my screen and for taking the time to post it...I've put the screen benind a sofa on the wall but sadly I'm not digging the brown in my cottage, sigh, i love your idea for vintage maps, I've never seen them anywhere, I'm going to ebay them and see what I can come up with, also like your idea of using it in the bathroom somehow just think it might be a bit too big, the bathrooms here are on the small side

oh and i'm with you on the black thing, i was all brave and thinking yeah yeah some black would be good and now I'm like, nah stick with what you like, just because it's ultra-trendy to have black everywhere doesn't mean it works for all!

  5. I don't think that white slipcovers would work with the four grandchildren but I love how they look in your house. I especially love the afghan your Nana made.
